Homework Machines: AI applications envisioned in 1950s


Many (fiction) writers anticipated the rise of artificial intelligence and outlined more or less dystopian scenarios, thorny issues, and societal changes. Danny Dunn and the Homework Machines raise many good questions. I guess we knew that this time would come, but the pace at which LLMs and other computational systems, like Wolfram Alpha, became interesting might have taken us by surprise. 

On the other hand, some studies show questionable effects of homework in certain conditions. Perhaps AIs can make those fun and engaging.
