Cobots: collaborative automation

Collaborative automation is based on a factual premise that, at this time, there are tasks that are humans do better than robots. At the same time, the opposite is true: specific tasks are done better, faster, and cheaper by robots. It makes perfect sense to optimize the manufacturing process by matching each job with the best available resource. It means that robots or cobots might be working in very close proximity. This situation poses a unique set of challenges ranging from safety measures to profound algorithmic challenges based on limited predictability of human movement, reaction time, position, fault tolerance, etc.
