Leadership Studies: Organizational Behavior and Applications in Technology

Henry Kissinger is known for his books on foreign policy and politics. However, his books are an excellent resource for strategic leadership applicable to organizational behavior studies rather than solely political science. I always look for parallels and applications in the field of technological leadership.

This book, published in 2022, discusses in depth several leadership strategies starting with humility and equilibrium and finishing with the system of excellence. However, it is beyond question that the six leaders described by Kissinger profoundly impacted entire nations and the course of history during the Cold War.

Throughout history, great leaders faced challenges due to economic circumstances, domestic political struggles, and international relations that kept changing the world and presenting enormous disruptions and tragedies.

Similarly, leaders at all levels face transformative circumstances affecting social structures and cultural and economic relations today. Kissinger points out that many forces are shaping the evolution of leadership. Meritocracy and democratization have perhaps the most profound impact. Many of the points made by Kissinger resonate in the other works of modern leadership science and practice. Great leaders are often steeped in personal discipline, self-improvement, self-belief, or charity. They often express gratitude for the past and confidence in the future. They were often taught a wide range of subjects, including humanities.

On the other hand, Kissinger remarks that we are substituting a narrow understanding of knowledge and personal ability with a broader understanding of human character as a measure of individual and organizational worth.
