The Reality Game discusses the political, legal and ethical challenges for technology companies. In the field of #AI, legal regulations are increasingly heavy-handed. Building #NLP systems or multimedia moderation filters is a difficult job. However, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), or similar rules in other countries, e.g., the Brazilian Internet Bill of Rights, are very heavy-handed. Only the most prominent corporations might have the resources to operate in such an environment. The authors remind us that the invention of the printing press in the middle ages was followed by centuries of information struggles between different churches and political centers.
