The Heart of Business

The Heart of Business by Hubert Joly discusses one of the foundations of the capitalist system: an understanding of the business profit. The scope of this understanding has been changing in the past decades. Usually, we begin the discussion with Milton Friedman's definition of sustainable profits.

Today, technology appears to be the focus, followed by talent retention and acquisition problems.

However, the Heart of Business echoes many current themes and extends the discussion of profit to the company's mission, noble goals, and organizational purpose. Today, successful leaders are aware that their employees are outstanding individuals searching for their meaning within the organization and outside.

One of the essential sections discusses organizational focusing on effort over the results. In the context of organizational behavior and process planning, I agree with Joly that focusing on the process and creating the best possible environment for teams is one of the best ways to achieve remarkable outcomes.
