#Automation technologies that exist in #manufacturing for decades will enter and change the fast-food business. But, unfortunately, it will cut the number of jobs by a considerable margin.
#Palletization in manufacturing means that an unorganized process changes into an orderly process based on placing workpieces in strictly predefined places. This way, we can remove the need for more sophisticated vision systems that look for items in random locations. The same can be done with hotdogs and sandwiches. This means that relatively simple robotic systems will replace people that put together the orders. The only thing needed will be half-products delivered in a predefined fashion, similar to how you see packs of batteries nicely stacked in their wrappings so that a robotic arm can easily pick up what is needed. Solving the automation problem in this environment is more straightforward than autonomous driving since you can force the environment to be as predictable and ordered as you wish.
This brings us back to the discussion about the social contract and #unemployment in the context of #AI, #robotics, and autonomous systems.
