Six Sigma

Six Sigma was one of the more exciting topics that I’ve studied. GE adopted Six Sigma from Motorola in 1995, and under Jack Welch’s leadership, it became corporate religion. Six Sigma, at its core, is a system for eliminating defects in manufacturing. The name refers to a statistical model based on deviations on a bell curve. Six Sigma’s decline was a symptom of GE’s problems, a broader change in the corporate world, where innovation became more valued than efficiency, and technical precision was no longer a differentiator.
