Carbon Footprint of Algorithms

 

Excessive system complexity is an increasing problem. Many software containers often suffer from serious efficiency issues. Comparing several algorithms: Meena, T5, GPT, Gshard, and Switch provides an excellent insight into an increasingly important aspect of system development. In addition to evaluating model accuracy, we sometimes face hard decisions regarding the tradeoff between complexity, accuracy, and environmental cost. Data center selection is also impacting the big picture.
