Autonomous robotics for the Mars Mission

Shortly after dismantling the Apollo program, human missions were always 20 years away. Today, SpaceX is aiming for a robotic mission during the next Earth-Mars launch window. One of the more essential components is implementing the autonomy of robotic systems that will land on Mars. Without AI and independence, all systems will be dependent on manual control from this planet. Perhaps, the Mars Society could add another project to the growing list of essential ventures.
